Common Name: Leek: Freezo
Latin Name: Allium porrum
Description: Freezo is a dark coloured, late winter leek. It is very good for overwintering and harvesting in the Spring. It will withstand frost well. Its stems can grow to approx 17 cm. It has an upright growth habit, without any side bulbs.
Seed Origin: Germany
Sowing: January to May
Harvesting: December to March
How To Grow Freezo Leek From Seed: Sow outdoors at a depth of 2cm from April to May, into a well prepared seed bed. Alternatively sow Freezo leek seed indoors from January to March at a depth of 2cm, in seedling modules or small pots, using free-draining, seed sowing compost.
When leek seedlings are well established, gradually acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before transplanting them into the well prepared, fertile, well drained soil in sun or semi shade. Plant Freezo leeks at a distance of 10 - 15cm between plants and 35cm between rows. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.
