How To Grow Dwarf Petunias From Seed: For best results, sow petunia seeds indoors between February and May. Use fine, well-draining seed compost in trays or small pots. Gently press the seeds onto the surface without covering them, as they need light to germinate. Keep the compost moist by misting with water and cover the tray with a clear plastic lid or cling film to maintain humidity. Place in a warm spot with a temperature of 18–22°C. Germination usually takes between 10 and 21 days. Once seedlings develop two to three true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual pots.

After the risk of frost has passed, usually from May, petunia seeds can be sown directly outdoors in a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained soil. Lightly rake the soil and press the seeds onto the surface, ensuring they remain exposed to light for proper germination. Keep the soil consistently moist until the seeds sprout.

Once seedlings are 5–10 cm tall and strong enough to handle, they can be transplanted to their final growing positions in beds, borders, or containers, spacing them 20–30 cm apart. Petunias thrive in full sun and need regular watering, but avoid overwatering to prevent root issues. To encourage a continuous display of vibrant flowers, remove faded blooms regularly and feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser every two to three weeks.

With proper care, petunias will produce beautiful, compact flowers from early Summer through autumn, bringing long-lasting colour to your garden.
