Latin Name: Cucurbita moschata

Description: Black Futsu is a beautiful, heirloom Winter squash originating from Japan. The strongly ribbed fruits change colour from dark green/black to an orange colour as they ripen. Bright orange, thick flesh with excellent flavour. Fruit weight of 1 - 2 kg. Good storage capability.

How To Grow Black Futsu Squash From Seed: Black Futsu is best started indoors. Using small pots, sow 1 seed in each pot. After the seedlings have established, and developed their third set of leaves, they are ready to be transplanted to their final spot in the garden.

Make sure all risk of frost has passed before transplanting to the garden. Give each plant 150cm of space.

The fruit can grow to 1 - 2kg in weight. Harvest all of the fruit before the first Autumn frost.
