1000 Organic Summer Purslane Seeds [approx]
Name: Summer Purslane
Latin Name: Portulaca oleracea
Description: Summer Purslane, as you would imagine by its name, does best in Summer months. It is a very fast growing vegetable that provides juicy leaves that are a nice addition to any salad. It is a very old crop that was hugely popular centuries ago.
Sowing: March to August
Harvesting: May to October
How To Grow Summer Purslane From Seed: Summer Purslane can be started indoors from March to May. Using seedling modules or small pots, sow a pinch of Summer Purslane seeds in each pot/cell and lightly cover them with compost. Thin the seedlings when they establish to leave only the strongest one in each cell/pot. Transplant them to their final growing position when all risk of frost has passed.
Alternatively, sow directly outdoors in May, when all risk of frost has passed. Sprinkle the seeds evenly into shallow drills that are 15cm apart. When the seedlings establish, thin them out to leave a spacing of 15cm between each plant.
Summer Purslane grows quickly and should be ready to harvest after twelve to sixteen weeks, when the plants are roughly 10cm in height.
Seed count is approximate.
