How To Grow Catnip From Seed: Catnip, or Catmint as it can also be commonly know as can be started indoors in seedling modules or small pots. Sow a pinch of seed in each cell/pot. Cover the seed very lightly with fine compost or vermiculite. Keep the seeds and compost moist throughout germination. Catnip seeds can take up to 4 weeks to germinate.
When seedlings have established, thin them to leave the strongest one in each cell/pot. As the seedlings grow, they may need to be transplanted into larger pots before being planted in the garden. When frost risk has passed, plant the seedlings into their final spot in the garden.
Alternatively, when frost risk has passed, sow the seeds directly in the garden where the flowers are to grow.
Catnip can flower in its first year of growth, but normally the plant flowers in the second year.
