Name: Cucumber: Telegraph Improved
Latin Name: Cucumis sativus
Description: Telegraph Improved is an old English variety of cucumber. It is a highly popular choice of cucumber seed. It produces medium to long, dark green cucumbers. When trained, the plants can grow up to 3 metres in height.
Seed Origin: Netherlands
Sowing: March to June
Harvesting: July to October
How To Grow Cucumber From Seed: Cucumber Telegraph Improved can be started indoors from March. Using small pots or a seedling module, sow one seed per cell/pot. When the seedlings are established and frost risk has passed, transplant them to their final spot.
Alternatively, sow directly outside from May onwards.
Cucumber enjoys heat and will grow best in a greenhouse/polytunnel. It will also benefit if the vines are supported, this helps the fruits to hang, and grow straight.
Start picking the cucumbers when they become 10-15 centimetres in length. Frequent harvesting will keep the plant productive.
