300 Organic Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce Seeds [approx]
Name: Lettuce: Black Seeded Simpson
Latin Name: Lactuca sativa
Description: Black Seeded Simpson lettuce is a cut-and-come-again type. It is fast growing. The leaves are ribbed, with a greenish/yellow colour. Harvesting it regularly will keep the leaves tender.
Seed Origin: Netherlands
Sowing: March to July
Harvesting: May to October
How To Grow Black Seeded Simpson Lettuce From Seed: Using seedling modules or small pots, sow 1 seed in each cell/pot. Germination should take 1 to 2 weeks. When large enough to handle, transplant outside, setting plants 30cm apart.
Alternatively, direct sow mid-April onwards into 1cm deep drills, and thin to one plant per 30cm when the seedlings establish.
When the leaves are large enough, harvest them. New growth will then start in the centre of the plant. Harvest regularly so the leaves remain tender. The plant will eventually bolt to seed.
