Name: Pea: Kelvedon Wonder

Latin Name: Pisum sativum

Description: Kelvedon Wonder pea is a very popular dwarf variety of pea. It is popular because of its great taste, and the fact that it is very resistant to diseases.

Seed Origin: Netherlands

Sowing: February to July

Harvesting: May to September

How To Grow Kelvedon Wonder Pea From Seed: Kelvedon Wonder can be started indoors as early as February onwards. Using seedling modules or small pots, sow one seed in each cell/pot.

Transplant out to the garden when the seedlings are established.

Alternatively, sow directly outside from April onwards, in large pots or a prepared drill.

Harvest the pea pods as they fill out and become bulky due to the ripe peas inside.

Kelvedon Wonder is a dwarf variety of pea, and in theory can be grown without any support, but supporting it has its benefits, such as keeping the pea pods from touching the ground.

Kelvedon is a very popular variety of pea, due its taste, and its resistance to many diseases.

Seed count is approximate.

Enjoying Watching Them Grow

Here in Greece, many will plant peas in late November for a late May harvest. With winter months having the most precipitation, peas can be ideal for growing during the winter as they also can withstand cool temperatures.

With that in mind, I've planted several rows and have also stuck in between other vegetables I'm growing. I have been succession sowing so that they are not all ready to be harvested at the same time;

These peas are all germinating and growing very well - probably close to 100% germination rate, if not meeting 100%. This variety is perfect for growing in between other vegetable plants as they are a dwarf variety and don't require much staking.

It's a joy to watch them germinate and then continue their growth even with the very cool temperatures we've been experiencing where night time can be 8C or even lower.
