What They Went Through!

I am giving these seeds a 5 star rating even though I probably won't be harvesting a big number of these French Breakfast Radishes.

One day I was out in my garden and had this packet of seeds thinking I might try sowing some radish seeds "here and there." In the end, I didn't and put the packet into my pocket of my shorts - but forgot that I had.

Several days later, I went looking for the packet of seeds and could not find them. Suddenly at some point, it dawned on me I may have left them in the pocket. I checked lots of pockets, but could not find them.

On a whim, I went through some recent finished laundry and checked pockets - and sure enough, I found a matted up packet of French Breakfast Radish seeds....

This was in a pile of laundry awaiting pressing/ironing and it had been about 5 days since laundered and hung on the drying line.

I felt a rush of disappointment as I opened up this mass of paper that had gone through washing machine cycles.

But low and behold, when I got to the plastic zip lock bag, almost ALL of the seeds had germinated roots! And they were still moist, although smelling like the washing detergent.

In a panic and not thinking straight, I went around the garden right then and there, with a pair of tweezers and pulled out the root germinated seeds put them in shallow holes and hoped for the best.

The next day, I observed colonies of ants carrying away the bits of the germinated radishes that I had put in the ground - so they must have been good. I do see a few that have survived the whole ordeal so maybe I'll get to enjoy three or four of these radishes.

I'm ordering another packet and will be sure to not make mistakes of leaving it in my pocket for laundry machine germination!
