Not The Best Germination But....

I planted a minimum of 24 of these seeds into seed pods (some pods received more than 1 seed but I did not keep track) on August 18th, 2024. By the 23rd, I could see some of the seeds germinating and by the 25th, I counted a total of 13.

Today on the 26th, that count remains the same, but I'll keep hoping to see more. But as of today, I can conclude that I have had less than 50% germination rate.

However! This is important - I'm in Greece where the temps are still 30C or above during the day and seldom even fall to 26 at night. Lettuce seeds like cooler temps for germination (which is why I did not direct sow into the garden - the soil temperature is very high with the sun blazing for hours and hours all day no clouds).

I wanted to get some of these delicious lettuce into the garden when it cools down, so that is why I planted in the seed pods, and have kept them so far, in the shade.

Later, when it does cool down, I'll try some succession planting with direct sowing and hope for a better germination rate.

I'll update this review if my experience changes.

(Update - December 8th, 2024).

I am so very happy with the Little Gem lettuces I have grown from the seeds from Seeds Ireland! I have a bunch of them in my garden and even in some containers, and we've been harvesting lovely tasty leaves from them for the past month or so. We eat a LOT of "marouli salata" here in Greece, and I have been so happy with these, I've ordered and received a second packet of seeds for continuous succession planting throughout the winter and coming spring.

I'm attaching a photo of several of these lettuce plants - that are thriving in the garden and with the cool temperatures we have been having the past several weeks.
