How To Grow Uncle John's Kale From Seed: Sow Uncle John’s kale seeds outdoors from April to June in a sunny, well-drained spot, or start indoors earlier in seedling modules or pots for a head start.

Sow thinly about 1.5 cm deep and keep soil consistently moist until germination, which usually takes 7–10 days. When seedlings are large enough to handle, thin or transplant to 50 cm apart to allow room for growth.

Kale prefers fertile soil enriched with compost and benefits from regular watering during dry spells to prevent leaves becoming tough. Begin harvesting outer leaves when plants are well established, allowing the centre to keep producing for a long, continuous crop.
