How to Grow Anemone nemerosa Bulbs in Ireland

Plant Anemone nemorosa rhizomes in autumn in moist, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade. This native Irish woodland species is perfect for naturalising beneath trees, hedgerows, or in shaded wildflower areas, where it will gradually spread over time.

  • Planting Depth: 5–7 cm deep (just below the surface)

  • Spacing: 10–15 cm apart

  • Soil: Moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil

  • Sunlight: Partial shade to full shade

  • Blooming Time: March to April

  • Height: 10–15 cm

  • Growing Tip: Soak dried rhizomes before planting to rehydrate. Plant in informal drifts for a natural look. Allow foliage to die back naturally to help the colony expand over time.

Anemone nemorosa is exceptionally well-suited to Irish conditions and provides early nectar for bees and woodland insects at a time when little else is in bloom.
