Latin Name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Description: Helda is a highly popular choice of climbing flat bean. It produces long, broad, flat pods. It is popular as it is a very productive variety, and also very flavoursome.
Seed Origin: Netherlands
Sowing: April to June
Harvesting: June to October
How To Grow Flat Bean Helda From Seed: Sow directly into the growing site when frost risk has passed. Either into a prepared bed, or large pots. Sow two seeds per pot, or every 15cm in your bed. After germination, thin to leave only the strongest of the two seedings.
Alternatively, start earlier indoors, using seedling modules or small pots. Plant out when frost risk has passed.
Have a support system of canes or similar in place where you intend to grow your climbing Flat beans, so they can climb and support themselves.
Helda is a very flavoursome bean. Regular picking will encourage more growth and prolong its growing season.
