How To Grow Iris From Seed: Iris seeds need a cold period to break their dormancy. The easiest way to do this is to plant the seeds in pots in the Autumn, and leave them in a semi sheltered place in the garden. This way they will naturally experience the cold they need to germinate the following Spring.
Alternatively, you can mimic this cold in Spring by placing the seeds in a plastic bag, mix in some damp growing medium and place it in the fridge for 4 to 6 weeks. After this, plant the seeds in small pots or in a seedling module. If the seeds do not germinate, do not throw the pots away, as germination can sometimes take quite a long time.
When transplanting to their final spot, an area with damp ground will suit Iris best. Iris can grow up to 100cm in height. Iris should flower in its second season.
