Organic Phacelia Seed

Name: Phacelia

Latin Name: Phacelia tanacetifolia

Plant Type: Annual

Plant Height: 60-80 cm

Description: Phacelia can serve two purposes. The first being a very easy to grow flower that is much loved by bees and other pollinators.

The second purpose is as a green manure. It serves as a way of improving a soil's fertility and structure. Its deep root system helps break up compacted soils and improves soil structure. This allows for better water infiltration and root penetration by subsequent crops.

Phacelia's dense foliage can also help suppress weed growth, reducing the competition for nutrients, water, and sunlight. This can make it easier to manage weed populations.

When Phacelia is dug, and mixed into the soil at the end of the growing season, organic matter is added to the soil, improving its structure. The Nitrogen and other nutrients contained within the plant will also be released into the soil, improving its fertility.

If sown later in Summer, it may not flower, but it will still do its job as a soil improver.

Seed Origin: Netherlands

Sowing: March to September

Harvesting/Flowering: May to November

Plant Height: 60-80 cm

Coverage: 50g of Phacelia seed will cover 25m2...100g of Phacelia seed will cover 50m2

How To Grow Phacelia From Seed: Sow Phacelia seeds directly into the area where you want it to grow. Prepare the area by loosening and breaking up the soil. Spread the seeds thinly into the prepared area, aiming to leave roughly 2-5mm between each seed. Rake in the seed, so it is covered lightly by the soil. If no rain is due, water the area.

If you are growing Phacelia for its flowers, it may naturally reseed itself at the end of the growing season.

If you are growing Phacelia as a soil improver in a crop rotation, cut the plants at their base not long after the plant's flowers begin to die off, before it has a chance to produce seeds. The cut plants can be left to rot on the ground before being worked into the soil, or they can be removed for composting.

50g of Phacelia seed will cover 25m2 of ground.

100g of Phacelia seed will cover 50m2 of ground.

Approx. 500 seeds per gram.

Seed count is approximate.

Really easy to grow !

I have had great luck with is in my garden it seems to grow really quickly and easily . It also seems to grow taller in certain areas and shorter in others I imagine that is either to do with when I planted it or the quality of the soil but either way its all flowing now (July and Aug 24). Most importantly Its attracting bees which is why I planted it
