Common Name: Fennel: Florence Fino

Latin Name: Foeniculum vulgare var. Azoricum

Description: Florence Fino fennel gets very little trouble with disease during cultivation. It is important to make sure it recieves a good amount of watering. Florence Fennel is sensitive to frost. By covering the tubers temporarily during frost, any losses can be prevented.

Germination Rate: 85%

Seed Origin: Netherlands

Sowing: April to June

Harvesting: August to November

How To Grow Fennel From Seed: Sow seed directly into the growing site from April, and then in succession up until July. Prepare the soil well. A rich moist soil is preferred.

Sow in shallow drills 1cm deep, in rows 45cm apart. Thin seedlings as they grow allowing approximately 45cm between the plants. Keep weed free and watered if conditions are dry, to prevent bolting.

The bulbs are ready when they reach between about 8-10cm wide.

Seed can also be started in modules and planted out, but Fennel dislikes root disturbance and the modules must not be allowed to dry out.
