How To Grow Red Chilli Pepper From Seed: Chilli Peppers do best when grown in pots in a greenhouse, as they require plenty of heat. Sow in small pots or seedling modules, placing 1 - 2 seeds per pot or cell. Cover lightly with compost and keep the soil moist. Germination is most successful at temperatures of 22°C or above. A heat mat or heated propagator may be needed to achieve this. Germination can take up to 3 weeks.
Once the seedlings have emerged and developed their first true leaves, pot them on into larger containers. Continue moving them into bigger pots as the plants grow.
After flowering, the peppers will begin to develop. They start out green and turn red as they ripen. Peppers can be harvested once fully formed, even if still green, but green chillies will taste milder and more like sweet peppers than fully ripened red ones.
Seed count is approximate.
