Name: Rocket: Wild Perennial
Latin Name: Diplotaxis tenuifolia
Description: Wild Rocket is a nutritious green-leafy vegetable of Mediterranean origin. It is a quick growing, cool season crop. Its leaves can be ready to harvest just 40 days after planting. Rocket leaves have a sweet, nutty flavor when they're young, but they start developing a strong spicy flavor as they mature.
Seed Origin: Netherlands
Sowing: April to September
Harvesting: May to October
How To Grow Wild Rocket From Seed: Sow seeds evenly from April to September in compost or prepared ground. Thin as required to a spacing 15cm for mature plants. You can pick the leaves of young plants as soon as they are ready, but if you let some plants mature, the leaves will get quite large and more peppery. Succession sow throughout the season.
Can be started earlier inside or in a greenhouse.
Water well in dry spells or hot weather to prevent plants running to seed. You can also grow Rocket in large pots and other containers. Just sprinkle some seed onto good quality compost and keep watered.
Seed count is approximate.
