Name: Bellflower: Large Flowered
Latin Name: Campanula latifolia var. macrantha
Plant Type: Perennial
Plant Height: 100 cm
Seed Origin: Austria
Description: Large Flowered Bellflower produces beautiful, dark purple to blue flowers in the shape of a bell. It does very well in a semi-shade location. Bellflower is also known by many other common names such as: Canterbury bells, Harebell, Cup and Saucer, and Fairy Thimbles.
Sowing: March to May
Flowering: June to August
How To Grow Bellflower From Seed: Using seedling modules or small pots, sow a pinch of seed in each cell/pot. Press the seedlings into damp compost, but do not cover them with compost, as they need light to germinate..
When the seedlings establish, thin to leave only the strongest one in each cell/pot.
Transplant out to the garden when frost risk has passed. Alternatively, sow Bellflower seeds directly outside in Autumn, for flowering the following summer.
Cut off the dead flower heads to promote more flowering. Bellflower will do well in semi-shade.
