Name: Caraway
Latin Name: Carum carvi
Description: Caraway is a biennial herb that will only produce leaves in year one. It will produce flowers and seeds in its second year of growth. Harvest the seeds after the plant flowers in Autumn of the second year. Caraway leaves are also edible.
Seed Origin: Netherlands
Sowing: March to May. September to October.
Harvesting: August to October
How To Grow Caraway From Seed: Caraway seeds can be started inside, 3 to 4 weeks before the average last frost, or planted directly in the garden in spring when frost risk has passed, or else in the Autumn.
Using seedling modules or small pots, sow a pinch of Caraway seeds in each pot and lightly cover with compost.
When the seedlings develop their first set of true leaves, thin them and transplant them into bigger pots or to their place in the garden, once the risk of frost has passed.
